Abstract
THE RIGHTS OF PRISONERS HELD IN PRETRIAL DETENTION, SENTENCED TO IMPRISONMENT BY THE COURTS, AND THOSE DETAINED UNDER EMERGENCY PROVISIONS IN GREAT BRITAIN ARE SUBJECTS ADDRESSED IN THE COMMITTEE REPORTS INCLUDED IN THIS BOOK. THE IMPORTANCE OF CAREFUL SCREENING TO INSURE THAT ONLY THOSE WHO NEED TO BE IN CUSTODY ARE IN CUSTODY AND THE MAINTENANCE OF FREE ACCESS TO LEGAL ADVICE ARE STRESSED. PAPERS PRESENTED ON THE GENERAL TOPIC OF MINIMUM STANDARDS ARE INCLUDED IN AN APPENDIX.
