STATISTICAL DATA ON THE VARIABILITY OF FINGERPRINTS IN THE NORTH AMERICAN POPULATION DERIVED FROM THE FILES OF NEW YORK STATE IDENTIFICATION AND INTELLIGENCE SERVICE.
Abstract
FINGERPRINTS WERE ANALYZED IN SEVERAL SUB-SAMPLES TAKEN FROM RECORDS IN COMPUTER-RETRIEVABLE FORMAT AT THE NYSIIS FINGERPRINT FILES IN ALBANY, NEW YORK. THE SUBSTANCE OF THE RESULTS ARE PRESENTED IN THE FORM OF DESCRIPTIVE STATISTICS. THE METHODOLOGY OF THE STUDY INCLUDES THE CLASSIFICATION MANUAL, CODING FORMS, SEARCH METHODS, AND SOFTWARE. THE REPORT IS CONFINED TO DESCRIPTIVE STATISTICS FOR IDENTIFICATION AND POLICE SCIENCE USE ONLY. IT DOES NOT DISCUSS MEDICAL STUDIES ON DISEASES WHICH MAY BE ASSOCIATED WITH VARIATIONS IN FINGERPRINTS. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT MODIFIED)
