DESCRIPTIVE INFORMATION ON PROJECT AUTHORIZATION, ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA, DURATION, TERMINATION OPTIONS, STAFFING, SUPPORT SERVICES, AND SELECTION PROCESS.
Abstract
FEATURED HERE ARE DESCRIPTIVE PROFILES ON TEN PRETRIAL INTERVENTION PROGRAMS PREPARED BY THE CLEARINGHOUSE STAFF OF THE NATIONAL PRETRIAL INTERVENTION SERVICE CENTER. THEIR SELECTION WAS BASED ON A CROSS-SECTION OF GEOGRAPHICAL, CONCEPTUAL, AND IMPLEMENTAL VARIATIONS IN 'EARLY DIVERSION' DEMONSTRATION MODELS. THE PROFILING PROCESS INVOLVED THE PIECING TOGETHER OF ORIGINAL WORK STATEMENTS WITH PERFORMANCE STATISTICS AND THE SHAPING OF THIS INFORMATION INTO A REPORTING FORMAT DESIGNED FOR RAPID IDENTIFICATION OF ADMINISTRATIVE AND OPERATIONAL DESCRIPTORS FOR EACH PROJECT. PROJECTS PRESENTED ARE THE ATLANTA AND BALTIMORE PRETRIAL INTERVENTION PROGRAMS, THE BOSTON COURT RESOURCE PROJECT, PROJECT INTERCEPT OF THE CALIFORNIA BAY AREA, AND WASHINGTON, D.C.'S PROJECT CROSSROADS. ALSO INCLUDED ARE THE DADE COUNTY, FLORIDA, PRETRIAL INTERVENTION PROJECT, OPERATION DENOVO OF MINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA, PROJECT FOUND OF BALTIMORE, MARYLAND, THE HUDSON COUNTY PRETRIAL INTERVENTION PROJECT, AND THE SYRACUSE COURT REHABILITATION PROJECT. THE AUTHORS' PURPOSE HERE IS TO INITIATE AND MAINTAIN A TRACKING OF GROWTH FACTORS AND EXPERIENCES OF PROGRAMS PROVIDING CORRECTIVE INTERVENTION OPPORTUNITIES FOR QUALIFIED DEFENDANTS. THE STUDY WILL BE USEFUL AS A TECHNOLOGY TRANSFER RESOURCE TOOL FOR CRIMINAL JUSTICE PLANNERS, JUSTICE SYSTEM OFFICIALS, LOCAL GOVERNMENT POLICYMAKERS AND PUBLIC INTEREST GROUPS CONSIDERING IMPLEMENTATION OR REVISION OF THE PRETRIAL INTERVENTION CONCEPT.
