Abstract
FIRST, DURING THE DEPRESSION POLICE DEPARTMENTS WERE ABLE TO RECRUIT FROM A POPULATION WHICH, FOR THE FIRST TIME, INCLUDED MANY UNEMPLOYED COLLEGE STUDENTS. SECONDLY, THE WORKS PROGRESS ADMINISTRATION, AMONG OTHER PROJECTS, BUILT OR REBUILT OVER 110,000 PUBLIC BUILDINGS, INCLUDING NEW POLICE STATIONS, FIRING RANGES, SUBSTATION, JAILS, MAINTENANCE GARAGES, AND POLICE ACADEMIES.
