PROJECT WHICH PROVIDES PSYCHIATRIC AND PSYCHOLOGICAL DIAGNOSTIC EVALUATIONS FOR FELONS AND THOSE DEFENDANTS ORIGINALLY CHARGED WITH FELONIES IN THE DENVER CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM.
Abstract
THE DIAGNOSTIC EVALUATION CONSISTS OF A BATTERY OF TESTS ADMINISTERED AND INTERPRETED BY A STAFF OF TWO PSYCHOLOGISTS AND USUALLY, AN INTERVIEW WITH A PSYCHIATRIST. THIS PROCESS FACILITATES THE MATCHING OF INDIVIDUAL OFFENDERS WITH THE AVAILABLE TREATMENT AND REHABILITATIVE PROGRAMS IN ORDER TO COMBAT RECIDIVISM. EVALUATION RESULTS WERE FORWARDED TO THE APPROPRIATE PAROLE OR PROBATION OFFICER AND USED IN THE ONGOING SUPERVISION OF THE CASE OR IN WRITING THE PRESENTENCE REPORT. PERSONAL AND TELEPHONE INTERVIEWS WITH THE REFERRING AGENCIES, TOGETHER WITH SOME WRITTEN QUESTIONNAIRE RESPONSES, WERE USED IN THE EVALUATION OF THIS PROJECT. THE FINDINGS SUGGEST THAT THE DIAGNOSTIC CLINIC WAS WELL ACCEPTED BY THE REFERRING AGENCIES. THE COMPLETE PROJECT EVALUATION REPORT APPEARS IN THE APPENDIX. TWO SAMPLE DIAGNOSTIC EVALUATION REPORTS ARE ALSO INCLUDED.
