Abstract
INTRODUCTORY MATERIAL FOCUSES ON THE EMERGENCE AND NATURE OF STATE ADMINISTERED CENTERS FOR JUVENILE DELINQUENTS, AND INCLUDES NAMES, LOCATIONS, CAPACITIES, AND SELECT CHARACTERISTICS. SUCH TOPICS AS STAFFING TECHNIQUES, FACILITY ORGANIZATION, THE ROLE OF RESEARCH IN RELATION TO THE COLLECTION OF STATISTICAL INFORMATION, THE CLASSIFICATION OF OFFENDERS, THE PREDICTION OF PAROLE PERFORMANCE, AND SPECIAL TREATMENT PROGRAMS ARE DISCUSSED. ADDITIONAL MATERIAL CONCERNS PATHOLOGICAL PERSONALITY ASSESSMENT, EDUCATIONAL TESTING, CASEWORK AND GROUP WORK, AND FACILITY LOCATION, DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION. IN THE CHAPTER ON THE JUVENILE COURT AND DIAGNOSTIC SERVICES, THE AUTHOR URGES THAT JUVENILE COURTS SURRENDER ADMINISTRATIVE CONTROL OF INSTITUTIONAL FACILITIES FOR DELINQUENTS AND ADVOCATES A GREATER INVOLVEMENT BY STATE GOVERNMENTS IN THE PROVISION OF ALL TYPES OF SERVICES.
