AN ASSESSMENT OF THIS PROJECT WHICH PROVIDED SEVEN THREEDAY TRAINING WORKSHOPS ON JUVENILE JUSTICE PHILOSOPHY, GOALS, AND POLICIES FOR FAMILY COURT, PUBLIC SCHOOL, JUVENILE CORRECTIONS AND POLICE PERSONNEL.
Abstract
A TOTAL OF 219 PERSONS PARTICIPATED IN THE TRAINING SESSIONS. AMONG THE TOPICS CONSIDERED IN THE WORKSHOPS WERE PERSONNEL RELATIONS AND INTERAGENCY COMMUNICATION, JUVENILE JUSTICE POLICIES, JUVENILE JUSTICE AND THE SCHOOLS, INSTITUTE GOALS AND METHODS, DECISION-MAKING, DIVERSION, AND COMMUNICATIONS MODELS. THE WORKSHOP WAS HELD AT DRAYTON MANOR IN WORTON, MARYLAND, CHARTS INDICATING NUMBERS AND TYPES OF PERSONNEL ATTENDING THE LABORATORY AND THE TRAINING PROGRAM AND SCHEDULE FOR THE LABORATORIES ARE PROVIDED. EVALUATION MEASURES CONSISTED OF A PARTICIPANT RATING OF THE PROGRAM ON A 1-5 SCALE AND A BEFORE-AND-AFTER ATTITUDE TEST. MOST OF THE RATINGS FELL BETWEEN 3.5 AND 4.5; NO CONCLUSIONS COULD BE DRAWN FROM THE ATTITUDE TEST. IT WAS NOTED THAT IMPROVED COMMUNICATION AND WORKING RELATIONSHIPS SEEMED TO HAVE RESULTED FROM THE TRAINING PROJECT; HOWEVER, IT WOULD APPEAR THAT THE KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING GAINED THROUGH THIS EXPERIENCE HAD A VERY LOW RELATIONSHIP TO THE IDENTIFIED TRAINING NEEDS OF JUVENILE JUSTICE PERSONNEL. BUDGET INFORMATION AND RESULTS OF THE OPINION QUESTIONNAIRE ARE ALSO INCLUDED.
