A FAVORABLE EVALUATION OF A PROGRAM USING FAMILY AND PERSONAL COUNSELING, TOGETHER WITH APPROPRIATE COMMUNITY AGENCIES FOR THE REHABILITATION OF SELECTED CLIENTS.
Abstract
CLIENTS SELECTED FOR THE PROGRAM ARE TO BE NO YOUNGER THAN SEVENTEEN, HAVE NO PERSISTENT PATTERN OF ANTI-SOCIAL BEHAVIOR, HAVE NOT ENGAGED IN CRIMES AGAINST PERSONS, ACCEPTED MORAL RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE ALLEGED OFFENSE, MADE FULL RESTITUTION TO THE VICTIM, AND LIVE WITHIN AN AREA WHERE STAFF SUPERVISION IS FEASIBLE. EVALUATION OF THE PROGRAM WAS BASED ON INTERVIEWS WITH FORMER CLIENTS, CASE RECORDS OF A 50 PERCENT SAMPLE OF CLIENTS WHO HAD COMPLETED THE PROGRAM A YEAR EARLIER, AND RECORDS OF CLIENTS WHO COMPLETED THE PROGRAM THREE YEARS EARLIER. RE-ARRESTS AND INCIDENCE OF PAROLE VIOLATION WERE VERY LOW FOR THOSE IN THE PROGRAM. THE COST FOR THE PROGRAM WAS CONSIDERED REASONABLE AND WELL-MANAGED. CLIENT ATTITUDES TOWARD THE PROGRAM WERE POSITIVE.
