A report of the National Institute for Dispute Resolution is provided.
Abstract
This report chronicles the achievements during the first 10 years of the National Institute for Dispute Resolution (NIDR). NIDR cites as among its accomplishments over the past 10 years: providing $20 million in seed money to help individuals and institutions develop effective new approaches to resolving conflicts; bringing together leading practitioners, stakeholders, and institutions to foster discussion and use of promising conflict resolution developments; sponsoring conflict resolution research; and serving as a central source for information on the conflict resolution movement in the United States and abroad. In the next 10 years, NIDR will focus in five arenas: public policy, use of conflict resolution techniques by youth, quality of justice, exchange of conflict resolution information to the international community, and the use of conflict resolution in new arenas. A glossary of dispute resolution terms, anecdotal examples of the use of various forms of dispute resolution in various states and foreign countries, a listing of publications and videotapes available from NIDR, a financial report of NIDR, and a listing of current and former Board and staff members of NIDR are included.
