This article describes a program for educating police officers on the symptomatology and management of acute grief through case consultation.
Abstract
Four phases of the intervention are outlined: systems entry, direct service, client-centered consultation, and consultee-centered consultation. The difficulties of each phase are identified with specific reference to police, and the advantages of consulting in the area of death education are discussed. Cases of family reactions to suicide and accidental death are presented to illustrate consultation methods. A total of 12 references are supplied. (Author abstract modified)
