Abstract
Recent events reported by the 1988 Inquiry into Child Abuse in Cleveland (England), focusing on practice and procedure, indicate a swing towards cynicism. Driven by the growing evidence of significant levels of abuse, bureaucracies and researchers are moving cautiously to recommend and produce change. Recent developments in psychological research on child memory, in the law relating to child victims, and in the management of allegations of abuse are examined. 46 references.
