TO DEMONSTRATE THE NATURE AND UTILITY OF THE COMPARATIVE METHOD OF RESEARCH, DATA THAT WERE GATHERED IN THE COURSE OF THREE SEPARATE EMPIRICAL STUDIES ARE PRESENTED.
Abstract
THE RESEARCH COMPARED RESULTS OF POLICE-COMMUNITY ATTITUDINAL SURVEYS IN THE UNITED STATES, THE UNITED KINGDOM, AND AUSTRALIA/NEW ZEALAND. THE AUTHORS DESCRIBE THE DIFFERENCES IN METHOD AND OBJECTIVES BETWEEN THE THREE STUDIES, BUT NOTE THAT, IF THESE DIFFERENCES ARE CLEARLY RECOGNIZED, THIS COMPARATIVE METHOD CAN BE A COST-EFFECTIVE MEANS OF BENEFITTING FROM SEEMINGLY DISPARATE RESEARCH EFFORTS WHILE DELINEATING AREAS FOR FURTHER INQUIRY.
