Several European experts discuss various issues related to cross-border crime, with particular emphasis on the impact on crime that European integration will have on the one hand, and the adoption of countermeasures at the European level, on the other hand.
Abstract
The first article argues that the opening of European borders have been more of a boon to international law enforcement cooperation than to promoting transborder crime. The second article discusses developments in organized crime that might be expected in the coming decade and outlines future trends in cross-border crime. Four authors approach the issue of cross-border crime from their particular national perspectives (Italian, British, Central and East European, and Belgian-French). The final article addresses the need for a new approach to estimating European Community fraud, stressing the need for more complete exchanges of information between countries. Chapter references
