Annotation
THE AUTHORS FEEL THAT PAROLE HAS BEEN STUDIED LARGELY FROM THE NARROW FOCUS OF PREDICTION OF PAROLE SUCCESS OR FAILURE.
Abstract
A SECOND FLAW IN THE RESEARCH IS THAT, PAROLE OUTCOME HAS BEEN REGARDED IMPLICITLY AS SIMPLY THE FUNCTION OF PAROLE BEHAVIOR TO THE NEGLECT OF THE PAROLE AGENT AS DECISION MAKER. THE AUTHORS ALSO SUGGEST THAT THE PAROLE DIVISION HAS BEEN STUDIED AS A COMPLEX SOCIAL ORGANIZATION, AND THAT RECIDIVISM RATES CANNOT BE UNDERSTOOD WITHOUT TAKING INTO ACCOUNT THE CIVIL STATUS OF THE PAROLEE AND THE VARIETIES AND BASIS OF PAROLE DECISIONS TO WHICH HE IS SUBJECT.
