As the frequency of sexual assaults continues to increase, more counselors in schools, community agencies, hospitals, and private practice are assisting victims of rape.
Abstract
These victims are in a major life crisis and need support and understanding. The most common problem areas are reaction of others, guilt, fear, powerlessness, coping, and family response. In addition to a discussion of these issues, possible counselor responses are suggested which have been successfully used by crisis counselors at the Center Against Sexual Assault, Phoenix, Arizona. These are practical, how-to types of ideas. Seven references are included. (Author abstract modified)
