PREDICTION OF FUTURE TRENDS AND PRACTICES IN THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE FIELD, PARTICULARLY AS THEY AFFECT THE UTILIZATION OF CRIMINAL STATISTICS.
Abstract
THE AUTHOR SEES AN INCREASING INVOLVEMENT OF ECONOMISTS AND ECONOMETRICIANS IN CORRECTIONS, WITH A RESULTING CONFLICT OF VIEWS ON THE PHILOSOPHY OF PENAL ADMINISTRATION AND ON THE METHODOLOGY OF INFORMATION AND CONTROL SYSTEMS. THE INFLUX OF SUCH STATISTICAL SCIENTISTS WILL GENERATE INCREASED DEMANDS FOR STATISTICAL DATA OF A TYPE NOT CURRENTLY AVAILABLE. MR. WILKINS DOES NOT SEE ANY DEVELOPMENTS OF PROFESSIONALISM AS LIKELY TO INSULATE CORRECTIONAL AGENCIES FROM MORE POLITICAL INVOLVEMENT.
