THIS TEACHER'S GUIDE ACCOMPANIES A COMPREHENSIVE TEXTBOOK ON THE AMERICAN CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM THAT INCLUDES A STRUCTURAL OVERVIEW AND SEQUENTIAL ANALYSES OF THE MAJOR SUBSYSTEMS.
Abstract
THE INSTRUCTOR'S MANUAL IS BASED ON THE TEXTBOOK'S FRAMEWORK, WHICH BEGINS WITH AN INTRODUCTION TO THE CONCEPT OF LAW AND SOCIAL CONTROL AND THE PROCESSESS OF THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM. SUBSEQUENT TEXTBOOK SECTIONS FOCUS ON THE PRIMARY SECTORS OF THE SYSTEM: POLICE, PROSECUTION AND DEFENSE, COURTS, CORRECTIONS, AND PROBATION AND PAROLE. EACH TOPIC IS DEVELOPED IN THE TEXTBOOK IN TERMS OF ITS HISTORY, ITS PRESENT STRUCTURE, ITS FUNCTIONS, AND ITS CONTEMPORARY PROBLEMS. FOR EACH OF THE TEXTBOOK SECTIONS, THE GUIDE CONTAINS A BRIEF STATEMENT OF THE MAJOR THEME, A LECTURE OUTLINE, SUBJECTIVE ESSAY QUESTIONS, MULTIPLE-CHOICE QUESTIONS, AND MATCHING QUIZZES. THE VARIETY OF TEACHING TOOLS IS DESIGNED TO ACCOMMODATE THE RANGE OF INDIVIDUALLY PREFERRED TEACHING METHODS. AMPLE MATERIAL IS PROVIDED FOR INSTRUCTION THAT ENCOURAGES STUDENT SELF-EXPRESSION, AS WELL AS FOR APPROACHES BASED ON LECTURE. THE TESTING MATERIAL SUPPLIED ALLOWS FOR BOTH SUBJECTIVE AND OBJECTIVE EXAMINATION TECHNIQUES. A BIBLIOGRAPHY OF CRIMINAL JUSTICE JOURNALS AND FLOW DIAGRAMS AND ORGANIZATIONAL CHARTS COMPLETE THE TEACHING AIDS OFFERED BY THIS MANUAL. (MRK)
