Abstract
THIS WORK IS A PORTION OF THE 'DEVELOPMENT AND IMPLEMENTATION OF STANDARDS IN NONMETROPOLITAN AREAS' PROJECT, A DEMONSTRATION PROJECT DESIGNED TO RESOLVE THE PROBLEM OF IMPLEMENTING NATIONAL STANDARDS IN NONMETROPOLITAN AREAS. CRIMINAL JUSTICE STANDARDS PROPOSED BY THE NATIONAL ADVISORY COMMISSION ON CRIMINAL JUSTICE STANDARDS AND GOALS AND THE AMERICAN BAR ASSOCIATION ARE REVIEWED. REASONS FOR REVISIONS AND ADAPTATIONS RECOMMENDED ARE GIVEN. THIS VOLUME REPRESENTS THE STAFF WORK DONE FOR A COMMITTEE OF CITIZENS AND CRIMINAL JUSTICE PROFESSIONALS WHICH WORKED FOR 13 MONTHS TO DEVELOP CRIMINAL JUSTICE PRIORITIES FOR THE GREATER EGYPT REGION OF ILLINOIS, A LARGELY RURAL, 15-COUNTY AREA IN SOUTHERN ILLINOIS. THE RESULT WAS A LIST OF PRIORITIES TOGETHER WITH RECOMMENDATIONS FOR ACHIEVING THESE GOALS. AN APPENDIX CONTAINS STANDARDS WHICH WERE DELETED FROM CONSIDERATION BY THE TASK FORCE AS NOT APPLICABLE TO NOMETROPOLIAN AREAS, OF EXCEEDINGLY LOW PRIORITY, OR INCLUDED IN ANOTHER STANDARD.
