The primary goal of applying information resources in the Texas Criminal Justice Policy Council is to increase the agency's ability to respond to policy makers working to structure the State's criminal justice system to meet changing needs in a period of scarce resources.
Abstract
This goal can be attained through the expansion and maintenance of the JUSTICE simulation model, which allows the Council to project demands on the State corrections system under status quo conditions and to simulate new demands generated by policy initiatives or proposed legislation. The recent penal code reform, and rapid growth of criminal justice programs and initiatives have led to a parallel growth in the number of long- term process and outcome evaluations conducted by the Council. Data collection, management, and analysis are critical components to these evaluations and are all information resources-dependent. To carry out its responsibilities, the Council is considering expanding the JUSTICE model, conducting adult and juvenile sentencing dynamics studies, and upgrading existing computer software and hardware. 2 charts and 8 appendixes
