FEDERAL REGULATIONS GOVERNING THE DISSEMINATION OF CRIMINAL RECORDS AND CRIMINAL HISTORY INFORMATION.
Abstract
IT IS THE PURPOSE OF THESE REGULATIONS TO ASSURE THAT CRIMINAL HISTORY RECORD INFORMATION WHEREVER IT APPEARS IS COLLECTED, STORED, AND DISSEMINATED IN A MANNER TO ENSURE THE COMPLETENESS; INTEGRITY, ACCURACY AND SECURITY OF SUCH INFORMATION AND TO PROTECT INDIVIDUAL PRIVACY. FURTHERMORE, THESE REGULATIONS AFFORD GREATER PROTECTION OF THE PRIVACY OF INDIVIDUALS WHO MAY BE INCLUDED IN THE RECORDS OF THE FEDERAL BUREAU OF INVESTIGATION, CRIMINAL JUSTICE AGENCIES RECEIVING FUNDS DIRECTLY OR INDIRECTLY FROM THE LAW ENFORCEMENT ASSISTANCE ADMINISTRATION, AND INTERSTATE, STATE OR LOCAL CRIMINAL JUSTICE AGENCIES EXCHANGING RECORDS WITH THE FBI OR THESE FEDERALLY-FUNDED SYSTEMS. AT THE SAME TIME, THESE REGULATIONS PRESERVE LEGITIMATE LAW ENFORCEMENT NEED FOR ACCESS TO SUCH RECORDS. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT)
