Abstract
The Commission's major initiatives during 1999-2000 included: (1) improving the handling of minor complaints against police; (2) reducing misuse of the complaints process in local government election campaigns; (3) continuing proactive investigations into police involvement with drugs; (4) assisting in formulation of policies and procedures relating to the management of covert police operatives; (5) improving information security controls and increasing police officers' awareness of the need to deal properly with confidential information; (6) redefining procedures for identifying officers whose profiles indicate an overly aggressive policing style; (7) developing proactive measures to combat misuse of the Internet and e-mail by public officers; and (8) beginning the "Prisoner Numbers in Queensland" research project with the primary objective of finding out why Queensland's prisoner population has grown so rapidly since 1993. The report includes a financial summary of Commission activities, a brief history of the Commission, and data regarding corporate governance, investigations, research, prevention, reform, witness protection, corporate support, and Commission personnel.
