Abstract
The book examines various major crimes and investigative leads unique to each crime category. It also discusses such topics as identity theft, proactive investigations, and cognitive interviewing techniques. In addition, it discusses the role of the crime lab and how it assists the criminal investigator, from comparative ballistic analysis to complex DNA analysis. The chapters on Organized Crime, Threat Assessment, and The Investigator's Role in Community-Oriented, Problem-Solving Policing are new with this edition, as are 19 case studies. The case study method of instruction facilitates learning by linking case content to textbook topics. Each chapter includes a chapter review, a related case study, discussion questions, and suggested library assignments and/or workbook projects. The book is divided into Introduction, Elements of Investigation, and Investigating Major Crimes. References, figures, appendixes, glossary, bibliography, index
