This 25th Annual Report of the Criminal Injuries Compensation Board covers a 2-year fiscal period from April 1, 1995 to March 31, 1996 and from April 1, 1996 to March 31, 1997.
Abstract
The Criminal Injuries Compensation Board is a quasi-judicial tribunal which provides compensation to victims of violent crime occurring in Ontario. Compensation may be awarded for: (1) expenses resulting from the victim's injury or death; (2) emergency expenses such as medical expenses, funeral expenses and interim counseling; (3) loss of wages as a consequence of the total or partial disability affecting the victim's capacity to work; (4) pecuniary loss to the dependents of a deceased victim; (5) pain and suffering; and (6) maintenance of a child born as a result of a sexual assault. The report describes the legislation authorizing and governing the Board's activities and provides samples of the Board's decisions. Tables, figures
