Abstract
TO PRESENT THESE FORMS OF CRIMINAL BEHAVIOR SYSTEMATICALLY, THE BOOK CONTAINS A DISCUSSION OF THE CONSTRUCTION OF TYPES OF CRIME, THE FORMULATION AND UTILIZATION OF A TYPOLOGY OF CRIME BASED ON CRIMINAL BEHAVIOR SYSTEMS, AND THE PRESENTATION OF SOME RESEARCH ON TYPES OF CRIME. THERE ARE EIGHT TYPES OF CRIMINAL BEHAVIOR SYSTEMS. THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE TYPOLOGY IS BASED ON SUCH SOCIOLOGICAL CRITERIA AS THE CRIMINAL CAREER OF THE OFFENDER, GROUP SUPPORT OF THE CRIMINAL BEHAVIOR, CORRESPONDENCE BETWEEN CRIMINAL BEHAVIOR AND LEGITIMATE BEHAVIOR PATTERNS, AND SOCIETAL REACTION. THE AUTHORS HAVE CALLED THE TYPES VIOLENT PERSONAL CRIME, OCCASIONAL PROPERTY CRIME, OCCUPATIONAL CRIME, POLITICAL CRIME, PUBLIC ORDER CRIME, CONVENTIONAL CRIME, ORGANIZED CRIME, AND PROFESSIONAL CRIME. THESE CRIMINAL BEHAVIOR SYSTEMS PROVIDE THE BASIC FRAMEWORK FOR THE PRESENTATION OF THE RESEARCH AND WRITINGS ON THE TYPES OF CRIME. EACH CRIMINAL BEHAVIOR SYSTEM IS PRECEDED BY A DISCUSSION OF THE CHARACTERISTICS OF THE TYPE. A SELECTED BIBLIOGRAPHY, WHICH FOLLOWS THIS DISCUSSION, PROVIDES A GUIDE FOR FURTHER READING ON THE PARTICULAR SYSTEM.
