AN INTERNATIONAL REVIEW OF THE PATTERNS AND EXTENT OF FEMALE CRIME, WITH A BRIEF DISCUSSION OF THE POSSIBLE CAUSES OF INCREASING CRIME RATES FOR WOMEN.
Abstract
A SIGNIFICANT CHANGE IS NOTED IN THE TYPES OF CRIMES THAT WOMEN COMMIT. IT IS STATED THAT IN THE PAST, WOMEN TENDED TO PARTICIPATE IN PROSTITUTION AND SHOPLIFTING, WHILE TODAY, MANY ARE INVOLVED IN VIOLENT CRIMES, ARMED ROBBERY, AND TERRORISM. EXPLANATIONS FOR THIS, SUCH AS THE MORE RESPONSIBLE ROLE OF WOMEN OR THE SPREAD OF WOMEN'S LIBERATION ARE DISCUSSED. TRENDS IN FEMALE CRIMES ARE THEN REVIEWED FOR ENGLAND, JAPAN, GERMANY, CANADA, AUSTRALIA, SWITZERLAND, FRANCE, ITALY, SPAIN, ARGENTINA, AND THE SOVIET UNION.
