In 1982, there were 233,540 serious crimes (Index offenses) reported, and 24.8 percent of these were cleared. The crime rate was 425.75 Part I offenses for every 100,000 inhabitants.
Abstract
A total of 344,360 arrests were made in the State, with 10.7 percent of these involving persons under age 18. The report presents data on crime Index offenses, Index offenses by contributor, contributing agencies for 1982, and a summary of Index offenses. The value of property stolen and recovered, arrest data, and law enforcement officers killed and assaulted are also reported. The last section gives Index offenses and value of property stolen and recovered by Virginia planning districts. Tables, graphs, and maps comprise most of the report.
