In 1972, the government of the Province of Quebec passed law entitled 'The Crime Victims Compensation Act.' The objectives of this new law were to compensate the crime victims themselves and their dependents in case of death.
Abstract
Since 1978, with the same state of mind, a law entitled 'Act to Promote Good Citizenship' provides to rescuers and good Samaritans the possibility of claiming monetary compensation and the right to receive monetary rewards and decorations. The following article will describe and enumerate the different benefits which a victim beneficiary might claim according to these laws, and all the services and rehabilitation programs offered to an injured victim. Mention is also made of cases which did not result in compensation, the statistics and the current trends of the Quebec legislation. (Author abstract)
