Abstract
The Uniform Crime Reporting Program is a nationwide, cooperative statistical effort of approximately 16,000 city, county, and State law enforcement agencies voluntarily reporting data on crimes brought to their attention. The crime index offenses for which data are reported are murder and nonnegligent manslaughter, forcible rape, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, larceny-theft, motor vehicle theft, and arson. Data on murder include the percent of the annual total by month; the age, sex, and race of victims; victim/offender relationship by race and sex; type of weapons used; victims by type of weapons used; and circumstances by relationship and weapon. Less extensive victimization data are provided for the other offenses. Data on offenses cleared are presented by offense, population group, geographic region and division, and by persons under 18 years old. Demographic breakdowns are provided on the persons arrested. Data on law enforcement employees encompass the number and rate per 1,000 inhabitants by region and population group. The number of male and female officers as well as the percentage of civilian employees are reported. Appended supplementary information.
