THIS ARTICLE COMPARES THE WAY WE THINK OF CRIME AND VIOLENCE IN THE SCHOOLS IN THE SEVENTIES WITH THE WAY WE WERE THINKING TEN YEARS AGO ABOUT CRIME IN SOCIETY GENERALLY.
Abstract
THE AUTHOR REVIEWS THE POSITIONS, IDEOLOGIES, AND ORGANIZATIONAL INTERESTS WHICH HAVE CHARACTERIZED THE DISCUSSIONS OF CRIME IN THE SCHOOLS AND IN SOCIETY AND CONCLUDES THAT THE RHETORIC IS INTERCHANGEABLE. IT IS PROPOSED THAT ALTERNATIVE APPROACHES BE PREPARED AND TESTED. WILSON RECOMMENDS SCHOOL VICTIMIZATION STUDIES, DETERRENT BUILDING DESIGNS, ALTERNATIVES TO ACADEMIC HIGH SCHOOLS, AND REFORMED JUVENILE COURT PROCEDURES AS REALISTIC STRATEGIES....MSP
