A SPATIAL ANALYSIS OF CRIME OCCURRENCES USING A SERIES OF CRIME MAPS BEGINNING WITH A LARGE LOCATION, OR NATIONAL LEVEL, THROUGH A CONE OF RESOLUTION TO A CITY BLOCK LEVEL ANALYSIS.
Abstract
BEGINNING AT THE NATIONAL LEVEL, MURDER AND BURGLARY RATES ARE MAPPED FOR EACH STATE THROUGH THE SYMAP CONTOUR PROGRAM TO FORM NATIONAL PATTERNS. DATA USED ARE 1971 UNIFORM CRIME REPORTS FIGURES AS PUBLISHED BY THE FBI. GIVEN PARTICULAR ATTENTION IS THE STATE OF FLORIDA BECAUSE OF ITS HIGH RATES OF ALL SEVEN INDEX CRIMES. NOTED ARE PERCEPTION CHANGES OF THE WHERE AND WHAT OF THE CRIME PROBLEM, AS WELL AS WHICH QUESTIONS CAN BE ASKED OF THE DATA AS THE CRIME MAPS ARE VIEWED IN PROGRESSIVELY DIMINISHING SIZES.
