This report presents crime statistics for Rhode Island for 2000, based on information from the Uniform Crime Reporting program.
Abstract
The report also compares Rhode Island crime statistics with those for the United States as a whole. The data revealed that Rhode Island experienced 36,446 crime index offenses during 2000, an increase of 2.6 percent from 1999. These offenses included 45 murders, 412 rapes, 922 robberies, 1,742 aggravated assaults, 6,620 burglaries, 22,038 larceny thefts, and 4,665 motor vehicle thefts. The comparison with national statistics revealed that Rhode Island had lower rates of all Part I crimes except rape. Rhode Island’s Part I crime rate per 100,000 population was 3,538, compared to 4,266 for the United States, 3,232 for the northeast region, and 3,174 for New England. Tables and figures
