A REVIEW OF THE TECHNICAL ASPECTS OF SECURITY HARDWARE CONSIDERATIONS IS PROVIDED, ALONG WITH A PRACTICAL GUIDE TO THE ANALYSIS OF SECURITY PROBLEMS AND THE APPLICATION OF SOLUTIONS IN RESIDENTIAL AND INSTITUTIONAL ENVIRONS.
Abstract
THE OPENING CHAPTERS DISCUSS THE BASIC PRINCIPLES OF PHYSICAL SECURITY (I.E., EVALUATING SECURITY REQUIREMENTS, DEFINING AND ANALYZING EXISTING HAZARDS, SECURING PERIMETERS, SECURING OPEN AREAS, LIGHTING), WHILE SUBSEQUENT SECTIONS ARE DEVOTED TO SPECIFIC FACILITIES--INDUSTRIAL BUILDINGS, COMPUTER CENTERS, HIGH RISE BUILDINGS, HOSPITALS, BANKS AND FINANCIAL INSTITUTIONS, RETAIL STORES, WAREHOUSES, DOCKS, CONSTRUCTION SITES, AND SCHOOLS AND UNIVERSITIES. BASIC SECURITY DEVICES ARE ALSO DISCUSSED, INCLUDING LOCKS, ILLUMINATION SYSTEMS, FIRE AND ANTI-INTRUSION ALARMS, AND CLOSED CIRCUIT TELEVISION. EXECUTIVE PROTECTION PLANS AND SCHOOL-LOSS REDUCTION DESIGNS ARE EXAMINED, AS ARE PROBLEM AREAS INVOLVING TERRORISM, VANDALISM, AND KIDNAPPING. ALSO ADDRESSED IS THE ISSUE OF THE RIGHT TO PRIVACY VERSUS THE RIGHT TO PROTECT COMPANY AND PERSONAL ASSETS. PHOTOGRAPHS AND OTHER ILLUSTRATIONS ARE INCLUDED. AN INDEX IS PROVIDED.
