This activity book for children uses a 'crime fighting dog' to teach children safety measures they can take to prevent crime.
Abstract
The book is illustrated with color-in drawings and simple games for children to play that aim to teach youngsters how to protect themselves (never talk to strangers, never get into a car with a stranger), protect the home (lock the door, look through the peephole), and protect their belongings (mark property). Space is available for children to write down information, such as their parents' driver's license number, and these pages are labeled so that children can cut them out and keep them. Other tips are given regarding protecting bicycles, valuables in cars, and the neighborhood. The book tells children what information to tell the police if they need to call them and illustrates methods of making sliding glass doors and windows burglar-proof so that young readers can tell their parents. A child-parent home security checklist is included. After the activities in the book are completed, children can cut out the membership card and badge provided that signifies membership in the crime prevention club.
