Abstract
Pennsylvania's UCR program classifies offenses as Part I offenses (criminal homicide, forcible rape, robbery, assault, burglary, larceny, motor vehicle theft, and arson) and Part II offenses (other assaults, forgery and counterfeiting, fraud, embezzlement, stolen property, vandalism, weapon possession, prostitution and commercialized vice, sex offenses, drug law offenses, gambling, offenses against the family and children, driving under the influence, liquor law violations, disorderly conduct, vagrancy, curfew and loitering law violations, and runaways). In 1993, 929,908 crimes of all types were reported to the UCR program by Pennsylvania law enforcement agencies. This total represented a rate of 7,743.4 crimes per 100,000 population and a decrease of 2.5 percent over 1992. A total of 380,772 Part I offenses were reported and confirmed by the police after investigation. The number of Part II offenses in 1993 totaled 549,094, a rate of 4,572.4 per 100,000 population and a decrease of 1.9 percent over 1992. About 45 percent of all offenses were cleared, 24.8 percent of Part I offenses and 59.6 percent of Part II offenses. Detailed statistical data are provided in the text of the report and in appendixes.
