Abstract
Crime data from around Maryland are submitted by law enforcement agencies to the Maryland State Uniform Crime Reporting Program on a monthly basis. The current report, released each year since 1975, presents statistical data on criminal offenses, clearance rates, arrests, law enforcement officers killed or assaulted while on duty, and law enforcement employee data. Criminal offenses detailed include the index crimes of murder, rape, robbery, aggravated assault, breaking or entering, larceny-theft, motor vehicle theft, arson, and domestic violence. During 2004, a total of 241,263 criminal incidents were reported to Maryland police, a 3-percent decline compared to 2003. Violent crimes increased less than 1 percent and property crimes decreased 3 percent. A total of 309,777 arrests were made in 2004, representing a 5-percent decrease from 2003.
