PART OF A MONOGRAPH SERIES ON CRIMINALISTICS, THIS TEST DEALS WITH THE PURPOSE AND ADVANTAGES OF A CRIMINALISTICS LABORATORY, LABORATORY PLANNING, AND OPERATIONAL CONSIDERATIONS OF THE CRIMINALISTICS LABORATORY.
Abstract
THE NEED AND SCOPE OF A CRIMINALISTICS OPERATION ARE FIRST DISCUSSED. THE TYPE OF WORK GENERALLY CONDUCTED IN A CRIME LABORATORY INCLUDES DRINKING DRIVER ENFORCEMENT, PHYSICAL EVIDENCE WORK OF DETECTIVE BUREAUS, FIRE INVESTIGATION, TRAFFIC ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION, AND CONSULTING LIAISON ON SCIENCE-LAW MATTERS. THE ORGANIZATIONAL ORIENTATION OF THE CRIMINALISTICS OPERATION IS ALSO DISCUSSED. THE PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPEMNT, PERSONNEL, AND THE LABORATORY ORGANIZATION ARE ALL EXAMINED WITH RESPECT TO LABORATORY PLANNING. FINALLY, SEVERAL ASPECTS OF CRIME LABORATORY OPERATION, SUCH AS THE OPERATIONAL ROUTINE, EVIDENCE COLLECTION, AND COURT APPEARANCE AND TESTIMONY ARE CONSIDERED.
