THIS REPORT SUMMARIZES STATISTICS ON REPORTED CRIMES AND ARRESTS IN HAWAII IN 1975 BASED ON THE STATE'S CENTRALIZED CRIME REPORTING SYSTEM, WHICH CONFORMS TO THE NATIONAL UNIFORM CRIME REPORTING SYSTEM.
Abstract
INDEX CRIMES (CRIMINAL HOMICIDE, FORCIBLE RAPE, ROBBERY, AGGRAVATED ASSAULT, BURGLARY, LARCENY, AND MOTOR VEHICLE THEFT) TOTALED 52,099 DURING 1975. VIOLENT CRIMES (MURDER, FORCIBLE RAPE, ROBBERY, AND AGGRAVATED ASSAULT) CONSTITUTED 3.6 PERCENT OF ALL REPORTED INDEX OFFENSES, WHILE PROPERTY CRIMES REPRESENTED 96.4 PERCENT. CLEARANCES BY ARREST OR OTHER MEANS RANGED FROM 19.7 PERCENT FOR BURGLARY TO 59.1 PERCENT FOR AGGRAVATED ASSAULT. THE OVERALL CLEARANCE RATE FOR INDEX CRIMES WAS 21.6 PERCENT. THE TOTAL VALUE OF PROPERTY STOLEN WAS $16.4 MILLION, OF WHICH 24.9 PERCENT WAS RECOVERED. THE 9,168 ARRESTS FOR INDEX CRIMES CONSTITUTED 30.9 PERCENT OF ALL ARRESTS. OF THE NEARLY 30,000 TOTAL ARRESTS FOR NONTRAFFIC OFFENSES, 33.2 PERCENT WERE OF JUVENILES. ARRESTS FOR DRUG VIOLATIONS TOTALED 1,662, OF WHICH 17.1 PERCENT WERE JUVENILE. EXTENSIVE TABLES PRESENT BREAKDOWNS BY TYPE OF OFFENSE, GEOGRAPHIC AREA, MONTH, AND TYPE OF PROPERTY STOLEN, AND BY THE AGE, SEX, AND RACIAL BACKGROUND OF PEOPLE ARRESTED. A DESCRIPTION OF THE DATA COLLECTION SYSTEM AND DEFINITIONS OF PART ONE AND PART TWO OFFENSES ARE ALSO PROVIDED. (CFW)
