This report summarizes statistics on crime in the State and counties of Hawaii to assist lawmakers, local government and law enforcement officials, and other administrators in making decisions in their respective fields.
Abstract
Statistics are presented on index crimes, personal and property crimes, value of property stolen, arrests reported for index crimes, total arrests reported, narcotic drug arrests, and gambling arrests. Data on the age, sex, and race of offenders, both adults and juveniles, are also provided. Overall, crime in Hawaii has increased significantly in 1980. All crime index offenses, with the exception of motor vehicle theft, increased during the period 1979-80. A total of 11,238 arrests were made for index crimes in 1980, with juvenile arrests accounting for 29.7 percent of all persons arrested for the year. A total of 2,441 arrests for drug violations were reported in 1980, as well as 1,017 arrests on charges of gambling. Tables, charts, graphs, and uniform crime reporting definitions are included.
