Abstract

Other data address police activity by jurisdiction; regional crime comparisons; computer aided dispatch crime data; and the age, race, and sex of arrestees. Data show that crime in Delaware may have peaked in 1991, with the crime rate decreasing in both 1992 and 1993. At a rate of 235.9 crimes per 1,000 population, the 1993 crime rate decreased to levels below that of 1990, which was 244.9 crimes per 1,000 population. Both Part I and Part II crime rates fell in 1993 to levels below the 1990 rates; however, the number of violent crimes increased statewide to record levels. Part I offenses in 1993 decreased to a rate of 53.7 offenses reported to police per 1,000 population, the lowest level since 1989. The 1993 rate shows a 7.3-percent decrease in reported Part I crimes from the 1992 level of 57.9 per 1,000 population. Part II offenses reported to police in 1993 occurred at a rate of 182.2 per 1,000 population, the lowest rate since 1989 (190 per 1,000 population). The 1993 Part II rate is a 4.8- percent decrease from 1992, which had a Part II offense rate of 191.3.
