This report presents crime and arrest data and law enforcement employee data, based on information from the Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) Program, for Arkansas during 1979.
Abstract
The goals, history, reporting procedure, scope, and limitations of the UCR Program in the State are described. Information is presented on the amount of Index crime statewide; on Index offenses by contributor; on the value of property stolen and recovered; on arrests by age, race, sex, and county; and on the number of law enforcement officers assaulted. In 1979, there were 7,862 violent crimes reported, an increase of 9.1 percent over 1978. A total of 69,668 property crimes were reported, an increase of 6.2 percent over the previous year. Total arrests increased 3 percent over 1978, from 112,254 to 115,664 in 1979. Property stolen had a value of over $35 million, and over $12 million of stolen property was recovered during the year. The five largest law enforcement jurisdictions in Arkansas, representing 19.2 percent of the State's population, accounted for 41.8 percent of the Index crime for 1979. Tables and graphs compose the bulk of the report.
