THIS STUDY IS BASED ON PREMISE THAT PHYSICAL DESIGN OF URBAN NEIGHBORHOODS MAY BE USED TO REDUCE CRIME.
Abstract
HYPOTHESES WERE CONSIDERED BASED ON PEDESTRIAN TRAFFIC, LAND USE AND PARKING, METROPOLITAN EXPRESSWAY SYSTEMS, VISIBILITY IN COMMERCIAL ESTABLISHMENTS, HOUSING PROJECT LAYOUTS, PROPERTY LIGHTING, ENTRANCE AND EXITS FROM BUILDINGS, AND BUILDING MAINTENANCE. THE SURVEY PHASE CONSISTED OF AN ANALYSIS OF BUILDING FEATURES AND SUPPLEMENTED BY ON-SITE EXAMINATION OF HIGH CRIME AREAS. DATA ARE PRESENTED IN TABULATION AND ON MAPS. A COMMERCIAL SITE DATA SURVEY PRESENTS DATA ON DAY AND TIME OF ENTRY, LOCATION, LIGHTING, AND OTHER FACTORS. THE RESIDENTIAL SITE SURVEY ONLY CONTAINS GENERAL RESIDENTIAL CHARACTERISTICS AND ANALYSIS OF PUBLIC HOUSING. THE SURVEY FORMS ARE IN AN APPENDIX.
