This annual report presents the activities and accomplishments of the Crime and Misconduct Commission in Queensland for the year 2008-2009.
Abstract
Highlights of key achievements for the year 2008-2009 include: 1) the prevention of crime; 2) the promotion of high standards of integrity and the reduction of misconduct in the public sector, and the investigation of police misconduct; 3) the provision for an effective witness protection service; 4) a major review of the CMC's functions and strategic direction were conducted and a range of workforce capability strategies were implemented; and 5) the Queensland Government announced its intention to implement the recommendations of the CMC report Policing Public Order: A Review of the Public Nuisance Offense. In 2009-2010, the CMC will focus on: 1) instituting and developing a telecommunications interception capability; 2) enhancing the CMC's crime prevention function with regard to technical capability, coercive hearing capability, and the use of criminal proceeds confiscation; 3) focusing on significant misconduct issues; 4) continuing to maintain an effective witness protection program; and 5) enhancing the CMC's organizational capability. This report details the Crime and Misconduct Commission's key achievements in combating crime, promoting public sector integrity, and protecting witnesses in 2008-2009 as well as outlining plans for 2009-2010.
