EMPIRICAL EXAMINATION OF DURKHEIM'S PROPOSITION THAT DEVIANCE, OR CRIME, WILL INCREASE ALONG WITH AN INCREASING DIVISION OF LABOR WITHIN THE SOCIETY.
Abstract
TO TEST THIS PROPOSITION AND FOUR COROLLARY SUPPOSITIONS, THE STUDY INVOLVED THE CONSIDERATION OF CRIME RATES AS FOUND WITHIN DIFFERENT COMMUNITIES POSSESSING DIFFERENTIAL DEGREES OF DIVISION OF LABOR. THE PRIMARY HYPOTHESIS WAS LARGELY REFUTED, BUT ALTERNATIVE INTERPRETATIONS OF THE FINDINGS SUGGEST THAT THE MODEL CANNOT BE DISCOUNTED. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT MODIFIED)
