California's 1988 statistics on crime and delinquency cover crimes, arrests, adult felony arrest dispositions, adult corrections, the juvenile justice system, and criminal justice agency expenditures and personnel.
Abstract
Crime statistics are broken down by violent crimes (willful homicide, forcible rape, robbery, and aggravated assault), property crimes (burglary and motor vehicle theft), larceny-theft, and arson. Other crime-related data address stolen and recovered property and clearances. Arrest statistics encompass total arrests, felony arrests broken down by violent crime, property crime, and drug law violation, misdemeanor arrests, and the personal characteristics of felony and misdemeanor arrestees. Data on arrest dispositions include convictions for crime types. Adult corrections statistics cover those under local and State supervision, probation caseload, and the number committed to State institutions. Juvenile statistics address arrests, dispositions, probation, detention, and first commitments. Appended data cover citizens' complaints against police, domestic violence, and known data limitations.
