Abstract
THIS VOLUME BRINGS TOGETHER CURRENT KNOWLEDGE ABOUT THE MAJOR ISSUES IN THE FIELD AND IDENTIFYING MAJOR AREAS WHERE RESEARCH IS NEEDED. PART ONE ADDRESSES THE BASIC ISSUES INVOLVED IN UNDERTAKING POLICY ANALYSIS AND ASSESSING CRIME POLICY. TOPICS CONSIDERED INCLUDE THE WIDESPREAD USE OF VOLUNTEERS, THE MULTIPLE OBJECTIVES ASSIGNED TO POLICE AGENCIES AND THE EVIDENCE AVAILABLE CONCERNING ATTAINMENT OF THESE OBJECTIVES, THE ADJUDICATION PHASE OF THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE PROCESS, THE JUVENILE JUSTICE SYSTEM, AND AMERICAN CORRECTIONAL INSTITUTIONS AND PROGRAMS.
