UNIFORM CRIME REPORT (UCR) DATA FOR IDAHO AND ASPECTS OF THE IDAHO CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM ARE ANALYZED IN NARRATIVE AND STATISTICAL FORM.
Abstract
THE UCR STATISTICS SUMMARIZED INCLUDE DATA PRIMARILY FROM 1976 BUT ALSO FROM PRECEDING YEARS; DATA ARE PRESENTED ON A STATEWIDE, REGIONAL, AND HIGH-CRIME-AREA BASIS. BOISE CITY AND ADA COUNTY ARE DEFINED AS IDAHO'S HIGH-CRIME AREAS. CRIME PATTERNS AND PROJECTIONS ARE INCLUDED, AS WELL AS COMPARISON OF POPULATION DENSITY FIGURES WITH REPORTED CRIMES. A SPECIFIC CRIME ANALYSIS IS ALSO PROVIDED FOR EACH OF THE SEVEN PART 1 CRIMES: MURDER, RAPE, ROBBERY, AGGRAVATED ASSAULT, BURGLARY, LARCENY, AND AUTO THEFT. DATA COMPARING SUCH SOCIOECONOMIC AND DEMOGRAPIC DATA AS UNEMPLOYMENT RATES, AID TO DEPENDENT CHILDREN RATES, AND LIQUOR SALES RATES WITH PART 1 CRIME RATES ARE ALSO OFFERED. THE SYSTEMS PERFORMANCE SECTION OPENS WITH A COMPREHENSIVE ANALYSIS OF ROBBERY AND BURGLARY CASES PROCESSED THROUGH THE SYSTEM IN 1975-1976. STATISTICS USED IN THIS STUDY WERE COMPILED FROM 6 AREAS THROUGHOUT THE STATE THAT REPORTED 65 PERCENT OF THE ADULT 1975 ROBBERY ARRESTS AND 45 PERCENT OF THE ADULT BURGLARY ARRESTS, USED IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE STATE'S UCR DATA. A REPORT ON STATUS OFFENDERS IN DETENTION IS ALSO PROVIDED. AN OVERVIEW OF THE IDAHO CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM, INCLUDING A BREAKDOWN AND DESCRIPTION OF ITS COMPONENTS AND HOW THEY FUNCTION, IS PRESENTED. INFORMATION CONCERNING EXPENDITURES, EMPLOYMENT, AND CASELOADS IS GIVEN. JUVENILE JUSTICE AND DELINQUENCY PREVENTION SERVICES ARE EXAMINED IN ANOTHER SUBSECTION. A DESCRIPTION OF INTERAGENCY COORDINATION, FEDERAL GRANT-IN-AID PROGRAMS, AND LEAA DISCRETIONARY PROJECTS OPERATING WITHIN THE STATE IS OFFERED. A FINAL SUBSECTION DISCUSSES DATA SYSTEMS FOR THE COLLECTION, ORGANIZATION, AND ANALYSIS OF DATA AND INFORMATION CONCERNING THE EFFICIENCY OF PROCESSING OFFENDERS THROUGH THE SYSTEM. SUPPORTING TABLES AND REPORTS ARE APPENDED. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT MODIFIED--DAS)
