Abstract
All the crimes covered are Crime Index offenses as defined by the FBI Uniform Crime Reporting Program. The statistics cover violent crimes, property crimes, and total crimes. Each table compares numbers of crimes and crime rates for the city, suburbs, metropolitan area, and United States. The volume also contains statistics on hate crimes, illegal drugs, correctional facilities, inmates and HIV/AIDS, capital punishment, law enforcement personnel, gun laws, anticrime programs, and the chances of becoming a victim. The statistics are intended for use by individuals relocating, business persons, general researchers, the media, law enforcement officials, and students of criminal justice.
