This volume examines 10 types of crime that are current or emerging major issues and discusses the issues they pose for the criminal law and the criminal justice system.
Abstract
Crimes affecting the economic order include white- collar crime, computer-related crime, and organized crime. Crimes and issues affecting the political order include domestic and international terrorism, the corruption of public officials, bias-related crimes, deliberate AIDS transmission, and the perinatal transmission of drugs by pregnant addicts. Issues affecting the social order include youth gangs, domestic assault, drug abuse and drug law offenses, and environmental offenses. The crimes are discussed in terms of their nature, extent, responses of the criminal justice system, and probable future extent and criminal justice responses. The analysis notes that the emerging crime problems of the future are far more complex than crimes of the past, often involving more organization, more technology, and more fraud.
