TESTIMONY HEARD BY THE HOUSE SELECT COMMITTEE ON CRIME IN NEBRASKA BY A VARIETY OF WITNESSES INCLUDING CRIMINALS, WARDENS, CIVIC LEADERS AND JUDGES.
Abstract
MOST OF THE TESTIMONY CONCENTRATED ON THE RELATION OF DRUG ABUSE TO THE CRIME PROBLEM. THE WITNESSES DISCUSSED THE INCIDENCE AND PREVALENCE OF NARCOTICS AND OTHER DRUGS IN NEBRASKA AND ITS NEIGHBORING STATES. ONE TOPIC EXAMINED WAS THE RATE OF DRUG AVAILABILITY AND USE IN THE NEBRASKA PRISON SYSTEM. MOST OF THE TESTIMONY WAS FROM FIRST-HAND EXPERIENCE OF THE WITNESSES WHICH WAS PRESENTED TO CREATE A PICTURE OF THE CRIME PROBLEM RATHER THAN TO POSE SPECIFIC RECOMMENDATIONS FOR ITS SOLUTION.
