THE DIFFERENT TYPES OF CREDIT CARDS, CREDIT CARD FRAUDS, AND DETECTION METHODS ARE DISCUSSED.
Abstract
THE USE OF CREDIT CARDS HAS BECOME A WAY OF LIFE IN THE UNITED STATES. THE CARDS HAVE ALSO CREATED NEW OPPORTUNITIES FOR CRIMINAL ACTIVITY. IN THE PAST, POLICE INVESTIGATIONS OF CREDIT CARD CRIMES HAVE OFTEN BEEN MINIMAL, PRINCIPALLY BECAUSE OF LAXITY OF CONTROLS WITHIN THE CREDIT CARD INDUSTRY AND A GENERAL UNCERTAINTY ABOUT THE COMPLAINANT'S DETERMINATION TO PROSECUTE VIOLATORS. EXPERIENCE HAS ESTABLISHED, HOWEVER, THAT INVESTIGATION OF CREDIT CARD CRIME IS A PROPER FUNCTION OF POLICE, AND THAT SUCH INVESTIGATIONS CAN OFTEN PROVIDE VITAL INFORMATION AND EVIDENCE FOR SOLVING OTHER CRIMES.
